A 5 million pound wedding at Castle Howard

In the summer of 2024 Social Espresso were asked to provide two wedding coffee bars for a luxury wedding reception at Castle Howard in North Yorkshire.

Castle Howard is more of a palace than a castle! In the 1980s it became famous as the fictional ‘Brideshead’ in two screen adaptations of the book ‘Brideshead Revisited’, in much the same way Highclere Castle has recently become world famous as the home of the Crawley family in ‘Downtown Abbey’. The interior also featured in the recent series ‘Victoria’.

Although open to the public, Castle Howard is also a spectacular location for private functions including weddings and receptions, with society figures and celebrities like Ellie Goulding using it for their weddings. And such a high-quality venue requires an equally high-quality wedding coffee bar service.

A 5 million pound wedding!

Social Espresso provided two wedding coffee bars for the reception which was held the day after the main wedding (the whole event reputedly cost in the region of a whopping £5,000,000!). There were high-class food and cocktails, live music from artists like Craig David, and even vitamin infusion drips available for guests.

And along with our two mobile bars, during the 10 hour event we provided:

• 4 baristas
• 2 top-of-ther-range cofee machines
• 768 delicious coffees served
• 12 kilograms of coffee
• 46 litres of milk

And to make sure our wedding coffee bar service fitted in with the classy venue, the baristas wore our standard uniform of smart white shirts with grey trousers and grey aprons.

What was particularly good was that we’ve worked several times before with the wedding catering company who were being used for this event too. It’s always good to work alongside other suppliers that we have a good relationship with, as each one of us can concentrate on their own area of expertise and provide the very best service to the client and their guests.

Not the usual gig

All in all, this was not your run-of-the-mill event for Social Espresso. We got to serve great quality beverages in a truly stunning location – from the Great Hall with its jaw-dropping dome to the extensive gardens and parkland (complete with peacocks!), Castle Howard certainly was one of the classiest places we’ve provided our wedding coffee bar service.
